RPG enthusiasts of the ‘90s rejoice (again)! Breath of Fire II is blazing onto New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Consoles!

Originally released on the SNES back in 1995, Breath of Fire II is a traditional RPG and direct sequel to the original set 500 years in the future. Players assume the role of an orphan named Ryu Bateson, a sword-for-hire with the ability to transform into powerful draconic beings. It’s often hailed as the better of the two SNES games, praised for its engaging storyline, colorful cast of characters, solid gameplay mechanics and vibrant 16-bit graphics. Unfortunately, it never quite reaches the same heights as role-playing legends Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI, marred by shoddy localization efforts, forgettable music and unfair spikes in difficulty. Nevertheless, those seeking a fairly decent and absorbing RPG adventure on the go ripped straight out of the SNES era are sure to find plenty to love.

Breath of Fire II will be available tomorrow, November 24th, for $7.99.
